SODMG rapper Soulja Boy finds himself in a legal battle with his ex-manager after Soulja filed a lawsuit claiming that he was “taken advantage of.”
2011 has been a great year for many rappers, and Soulja Boy is not one of them. The 21 year old rapper once again finds himself in the midst of bad publicity, this time as he files suit against his former manager.
As we previously mentioned, Soulja Boy has had one hell of a year, and not in a good way. To kick things off Soulja Boy took shots at actual U.S. soldiers in one of his songs, he was then arrested later in the year for felony possession of marijuana and guns, and more recently was served with an eviction notice after missing a payment on his Atlanta home.
In his latest debacle, Soulja Boy is suing his ex-manager Philip Ransom claiming he ” coerced him into signing multiple contracts when he was just starting out — contracts that were “unconscionable, oppressive, and unjust.”
According to TMZ, the contracts that Soulja Boy signed including a management agreement that gave Ransom 5% of Soulja Boy’s income perpetuity, as long as the work was completed under Ransom’s management.
Another contract in Soulja Boy’s agreement gave the record label 50% of the Atlanta rapper’s music copyrights, which Soulja claims “commercially unreasonable” and “contrary to music industry custom and practice.”
TMZ also goes on to state, “the contracts Soulja signed ARE industry standard … some recording contracts even take 100% of the copyrights.” Ransom has denied to all allegations at this point, and has even filed a counter suit against Soulja Boy claiming he still owes him money.
