Five police officers in North Carolina took down Game, although the rapper isn’t in trouble with authorities over anything criminal. The lawmen recently won a battle in North Carolina’s court of appeals over a defamation lawsuit they filed against the rapper following the making of Game’s DVD ‘Stop Snitching/Stop Lying.’
The men filed a $5 million lawsuit against the rapper back in 2006 claiming that Game misappropriated images of the officer and argued that their appearance on the DVD amounted to libel and slander. The lawmen also filed a lawsuit for $10 million to cover punitive damages, but the court of appeals rejected their claim rewarding them the $5 million figure instead.
According to Fox News, the officers managed to provide sufficient evidence to prove defamation, but apparently their appearance on the DVD didn’t show enough to conclude that punitive damages should be handed out against Game. “The trial court’s findings of fact were based upon competent evidence and supported its conclusions of law, which in turn supported its award of compensatory damages against Taylor. However, the trial court’s finding regarding the aggravating factor which supported the award of punitive damages against Taylor failed to indicate that the aggravating factor was established by clear and convincing evidence,” reads the ruling.
The officers, Hien Nguyen, Matthew Brown, Ryan Childrey, Romaine Watkins, and David Gregory, confronted Game during the filming of the DVD in the Four Seasons Mall and eventually arrested him on camera. Game was charged with trespassing, communicating threats and disorderly conduct, and the arrest forced him to miss a scheduled performance in Winston-Salem.
