Busta Rhymes is teaming up with Google Music in an exclusive deal for the release of his upcoming album ‘E.L.E. (Extinction Level Event) 2: End of the World’ and the rapper has already dropped the record’s first single, ‘Why Stop Now’ featuring Chris Brown, through the platform. The 20 year veteran of hip hop is looking for new ways to advance his career including a recent deal with Young Money Cash Money Billionaires entertainment.
Busta explained in an interview with CNET that the move to Google Music is exciting and indicated that the new platform was a personal milestone which could help inject some optimism into the ailing music industry. “It’s always great to be a part of something new, but it’s a whole other different dynamic and anxiety when you’re a part of the new revolutionary, groundbreaking turning point and shift in a climate for the world. Like, this isn’t just for music, this is for the world. It’s a statement,” said Busta before adding, “being part of something like that is a milestone, and a turning point for me in my career. It says so much in so many different dynamics. I’m so proud of this alliance and this union and just being a part of the most powerful search engine in existence, and the fact that they are making such a conscious effort to provide and facilitate a platform for artists that gives us the empowerment and the strength for being that much more independently driven. It just really does a lot for the faith of the future of the music, not just creatively, but professionally.”
The rapper also spoke about the influence his children have on him explaining that they keep him up to date on trends in music and technology. Busta said that while he’s purchased Android phones for his children, he’s still using a Blackberry because he’s a “late bloomer” when it comes to new devices. The rapper added that although he keeps up with the latest musical trends, his children occasionally find something he’s not yet heard such as Drake and Future’s ‘Tony Montana.’
Busta Rhymes joined a number of artist at the launch of Google Music in Los Angeles. Bands like Coldplay, Maroon 5 and the Rolling Stones as well as fellow rapper Drake have all signed up to make content like live concert recordings and singles available exclusively through Google Music. The platform, which is integrated with Google TV and Google+, will allow users to upload up to 20,000 songs which they can stream to their friends. The Google Music Artist Hub will give independent artists a chance to distribute their music through their own pages for $25 and keep 70 percent of the revenue from each sale.
